UAE Stock Markets Decline as Regional Uncertainty Pressures Aldar and Major Listed Companies

Abu Dhabi's benchmark index reaches an 18-month low, while Dubai shares retreat slightly as investors assess geopolitical developments and corporate earnings.

Stock markets across the UAE experienced losses on November 6, 2026, as continuing geopolitical uncertainty affected investor confidence and encouraged cautious trading.

Abu Dhabi recorded the sharper decline, with its benchmark index falling 1.3% to its lowest level in 18 months. The movement was partly driven by weakness in major listed companies, including Aldar Properties, whose shares dropped 1.7% during the session.

International Holding Company (IHC), one of the UAE's largest listed conglomerates, also faced selling pressure. Its shares declined 2.8%, reaching their lowest level in more than four years. The movement followed the company's third-quarter financial results, which showed net profit falling by more than 28% to AED 6.22 billion, compared with AED 8.70 billion in the corresponding period last year.

Dubai Stock Market Ends Four-Day Winning Run

Dubai's main stock market index slipped 0.3%, ending a four-session period of consecutive gains. Declines among financial and industrial companies contributed to the market's weaker performance.

Emirates NBD shares fell 1.3%, while Salik Company recorded a 1.1% decline.

However, Emaar Development moved in the opposite direction, gaining 1.2% during the session. The company's shares received support following an announcement by its parent company, Emaar Properties, regarding a proposed cash offer to acquire the remaining shares it does not currently own.

Emaar Properties shares finished the trading session 0.2% lower.

Emaar Properties Proposes $3.43 Billion Acquisition Offer

Emaar Properties has announced plans to offer AED 15 per share to purchase the outstanding shares of Emaar Development.

The proposed transaction could be valued at approximately $3.43 billion, depending on shareholder participation. Emaar Properties already holds just over 79% of its subsidiary and is seeking to acquire the remaining ownership through a voluntary cash offer.

The proposed move represents a significant corporate development within Dubai's property sector and could further consolidate ownership of one of the emirate's major real estate development businesses.

The offer remains subject to the relevant transaction process and should not be considered a completed acquisition.

Different Performance Across UAE Markets

Despite Friday's losses, the two major UAE stock markets recorded contrasting results over the full trading week.

Abu Dhabi's benchmark index finished the week 0.8% lower, reflecting continued pressure on several major listed companies.

Dubai, meanwhile, delivered a stronger weekly performance, with its main index advancing 4.4%. This represented its largest weekly increase in more than six months.

The difference in performance highlights the varying investor sentiment across the country's two major financial markets.

Investor Confidence Remains Sensitive to Regional Developments

Market participants continue to monitor geopolitical developments, diplomatic discussions and shipping conditions around the Strait of Hormuz.

Uncertainty surrounding regional security remains an important factor influencing investment decisions, particularly as investors assess the potential economic implications of disruptions to international trade and shipping.

For the UAE's property sector, movements in listed developers such as Aldar and Emaar provide an additional indication of investor sentiment towards publicly traded real estate companies.

However, short-term share price movements should be distinguished from underlying property market conditions, including actual residential transactions, rental demand and developer earnings.

The latest trading session therefore reflects a period of caution in UAE financial markets, even as Dubai's stronger weekly performance demonstrates that investor activity remains uneven across the country.
