UAE’s Al-Futtaim Group Explores New Investment Opportunities in Egypt
UAE-based Al-Futtaim Group is exploring opportunities to expand its investments in Egypt, with potential projects spanning logistics, commercial and administrative real estate, energy and investment zones.
The discussions took place during a meeting between Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Dr Mohamed Farid, and Omar Al-Futtaim, Vice Chairman and CEO of Al-Futtaim Group, as Egypt seeks to attract further investment and support the expansion of existing businesses.
Al-Futtaim examines expansion opportunities
According to Egypt’s State Information Service, the meeting covered potential cooperation across several sectors, including logistics services, the development and management of commercial and administrative complexes, energy projects and investment zones.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to establish logistics projects that could support industrial and commercial businesses, strengthen supply chains and improve companies’ access to international markets.
For Al-Futtaim, the discussions come as the group continues to develop its presence in Egypt. The company says Egypt has been an important market for the group for five decades and remains part of its long-term growth strategy.
Commercial real estate forms part of the plans
Commercial and administrative real estate was among the areas discussed during the meeting, giving the potential expansion a significant property component.
The proposed focus is broader than conventional real estate development, with the discussions also covering logistics infrastructure and facilities designed to support businesses and supply chains.
This combination could connect commercial property development with Egypt’s wider efforts to strengthen industrial, trade and logistics infrastructure.
Egypt seeks to improve the investment environment
Minister Mohamed Farid highlighted the government’s efforts to create a more investor-friendly business environment and encourage companies already operating in Egypt to expand.
The government is working to digitise and simplify investment-related procedures, with the stated aim of reducing administrative burdens and speeding up processes for investors.
The minister also pointed to opportunities for logistics developments that could support industrial and commercial companies, improve supply chains and facilitate access to foreign markets.
Al-Futtaim maintains long-term commitment to Egypt
Omar Al-Futtaim reaffirmed the group's commitment to continuing its investment in Egypt and exploring additional opportunities across different sectors.
Al-Futtaim Group has maintained a presence in Egypt for around 50 years. The group has also continued to develop its operations in the country, including its property and retail activities.
In January 2026, Al-Futtaim appointed Tarek Tantawy as CEO of Al-Futtaim Egypt as part of a new phase of growth for its Egyptian operations.
The group also recently announced a partnership with Egyptian fintech company Fawry involving Cairo Festival City Mall, highlighting its continuing investment in Egypt’s retail and commercial ecosystem.
Potential expansion could strengthen UAE-Egypt business ties
The latest discussions highlight continued commercial links between the UAE and Egypt, with Al-Futtaim exploring opportunities across property, logistics, energy and investment infrastructure.
No specific project value, location, construction timetable or final investment commitment was announced in the government statement. The opportunities discussed should therefore be treated as areas under consideration rather than confirmed projects.
For Egypt, attracting additional investment from established regional companies remains part of its efforts to expand economic activity and improve the investment environment. For Al-Futtaim, the discussions point to potential opportunities to further develop its long-standing presence in one of its key regional markets.
