Sharjah Advances AED 1.2 Billion Development Programme Across Eastern and Central Regions
Sharjah is moving ahead with more than AED 1.2 billion worth of development projects across its Eastern and Central regions in 2026, covering education, sports, government facilities, tourism, community infrastructure and public parks.
The programme is being carried out by the Sharjah Department of Public Works (SDPW) and includes both projects currently under construction and facilities that have already been completed and handed over. According to the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, the Eastern Region accounts for more than AED 834 million, while projects in the Central Region exceed AED 386 million.
Kalba Leads Eastern Region Development
Kalba represents the largest share of the Eastern Region programme, with projects valued at approximately AED 618 million.
Among the major developments is the second phase of Victoria International School in Kalba, which involved an investment of AED 184 million and has been completed and handed over.
Government-building extensions along Kalba’s waterfront represent a further AED 185 million in investment. The city is also seeing the development of a new sports complex at the University of Kalba, with a project value of AED 110 million.
The university sports facility is planned to include two semi-Olympic swimming pools, training areas, a football pitch and a running track.
Other projects include the AED 77 million Kalba Club for the Disabled, which was reported to be 76% complete, and the AED 38 million Rock Art Centre, which had reached 46% completion.
Khorfakkan Receives AED 188 Million in Projects
Khorfakkan accounts for approximately AED 188 million of the Eastern Region development programme.
The second phase of Victoria International School in Khorfakkan, valued at AED 140 million, has been completed and handed over.
Additional work in the city includes community and public-service facilities, including a completed nursery in the Al Luluyah neighbourhood and ongoing development of a civil defence centre.
More Community Facilities Planned in Dibba Al Hisn
Dibba Al Hisn has more than AED 29 million in community-focused projects.
The programme includes a nursery, waterfront amenities and facilities at the Sharjah Ladies Club beach park, adding to the city's public and community infrastructure.
Education Drives Central Region Investment
In the Central Region, education represents the largest category of investment, with projects valued at approximately AED 312 million.
One of the main developments is Victoria International School in Al Dhaid, with a project value of AED 184 million.
The University of Al Dhaid is also undergoing major development. An AED 84 million theatre is being constructed at the university, with capacity for up to 1,000 people.
The Central Region programme also includes an AED 42 million mosque and other educational and public facilities.
Sports, Public Services and Green Spaces
Beyond education, Sharjah's Central Region development programme includes approximately AED 49 million in sports and service projects and more than AED 25 million for parks and green spaces.
An equestrian club in Mleiha is being developed at a cost of AED 32 million. The facility is planned to include horse stables, a racecourse and training areas.
Other projects include a civil defence building in Al Bataeh, a camel market and several public parks designed to expand recreational and community facilities across the region.
Development Programme Supports Wider Regional Infrastructure
The scale and variety of the projects reflect ongoing investment in public infrastructure across Sharjah's Eastern and Central regions.
According to the Sharjah Government Media Bureau, the programme is intended to expand educational, sports, government, tourism and community facilities while supporting the needs of growing communities across the emirate.
For the property and development sector, these projects are relevant because improvements in schools, public facilities, recreation areas, transport-related infrastructure and community services can form part of the broader development environment surrounding residential and commercial areas.
The current programme therefore represents a significant public-sector development pipeline across Kalba, Khorfakkan, Dibba Al Hisn, Al Dhaid, Mleiha and other parts of Sharjah's Eastern and Central regions.
