Canadian-Egyptian Family Invests AED 2.19 Million in Sharjah Sustainable City Home

A family that relocated from Turkey chose a four-bedroom property in Sharjah Sustainable City for its family-friendly environment, practical layout and community-focused lifestyle.

Sharjah Sustainable City is attracting attention from homebuyers looking for a combination of residential comfort, family-oriented amenities and long-term property ownership. One example is a Canadian-Egyptian family that purchased a four-bedroom home in the development for AED 2.19 million after exploring housing options in the UAE.

Laila Ahmed, a freelance editor, and her husband, Karim, who works in digital technology, decided to buy their property before completing their relocation from Turkey. The couple had initially considered renting but eventually concluded that purchasing a home better suited their financial plans and long-term needs.

The family bought the property off-plan after learning about the development in 2023 and moved into their home in December 2024.

Why the Family Chose Sharjah Sustainable City

The family wanted a home that provided privacy, a strong community atmosphere and a child-friendly setting. After considering different residential projects, they became interested in Sharjah Sustainable City because of its development concept, community atmosphere and range of facilities.

The property is a four-bedroom townhouse-style villa with five bathrooms, separate formal and informal living areas, a maid’s room and a private backyard. The property also features two parking spaces, with the owners installing an EV charging station in one of them.

The family was particularly impressed by the property's floor plan and the efficient use of interior space. Rather than choosing a standalone villa, they opted for a home within a connected residential community, hoping to develop closer relationships with their neighbours.

Family Lifestyle Influences Homebuying Decision

The move to Sharjah was driven by more than the property itself. Having previously lived in Canada and Turkey, the family wanted a lifestyle that placed greater emphasis on community living and safety.

Access to their children's school was another important consideration. Before moving into their purchased property, the family rented a home nearby to keep the children in the same school district during the transition.

The development's location also offered convenient road connections through the E311 and E611 highways, as well as proximity to Sharjah International Airport.

These considerations illustrate how buyers may assess several factors when choosing a home, including location, education, connectivity and the availability of family-friendly facilities.

Homeowners Personalise Their Property

After moving in, the family made several improvements to adapt the home to their daily routine.

The backyard was redesigned to create more space for children to play, with a grass-covered area, a deck, outdoor seating and a small barbecue section. The family also incorporated storage for bicycles and scooters, reflecting their active lifestyle.

Inside the property, the owners introduced their own design choices through painting, furniture, artwork and kitchen upgrades. Glass doors were added to separate the formal and informal living areas, while changes to the sink and taps helped create a more consistent interior style.

The modifications demonstrate how buyers can adapt a property to suit their preferences and family requirements after taking ownership.

Community Amenities Add to Residential Appeal

Sharjah Sustainable City offers a range of recreational and community facilities. According to the homeowner, these include a gym, swimming pool, parks, basketball courts, multipurpose sports courts and football fields.

The neighbourhood also has cycling and running routes, while residents have organised activities such as book clubs and walking groups.

The family highlighted the development's greenery and landscaping as important elements of its appeal, creating an environment that feels different from the surrounding desert landscape.

Additional commercial and community facilities have also been developing in the area, including nearby cafés and restaurants. A mall and a mosque were reported to be under development at the time of the original interview.

For residents, the combination of recreational spaces, social activities and everyday conveniences contributes to the experience of living within a master-planned residential community.

Property Ownership Viewed as a Long-Term Investment

The family currently considers the property its long-term home, although future plans could change as their circumstances evolve.

The owners also view the purchase as an investment, but have not committed to a specific resale or rental strategy. If they eventually move elsewhere, they indicated that selling the property may be their preferred option.

For now, their priority is enjoying the home and investing time and money into making it suitable for their family.

What the Purchase Reflects About Sharjah's Housing Appeal

The family's experience highlights several considerations that can influence residential property decisions in Sharjah, including family needs, community design, transport connections and access to amenities.

Developments such as Sharjah Sustainable City offer buyers an alternative to housing choices centred primarily on the property itself by combining residential units with shared recreational spaces and community facilities.

While one family's experience does not establish a broader market trend or guarantee future investment returns, it provides an example of how lifestyle priorities can shape homebuying decisions in the emirate.

As buyers evaluate residential options across Sharjah, factors such as the property's layout, location, community environment and long-term affordability remain important elements in deciding where to live.
