Sharjah’s Aman System Uses Smart Technology to Monitor 13,700 Buildings for Fire Risks
AI-enabled cameras and reconnaissance drones support early fire detection and help emergency teams assess incidents across the emirate
Sharjah is strengthening its building safety infrastructure through the Aman early warning system, which connects 13,700 buildings to continuous monitoring and has recorded 3.3 million signals since 2022. According to Saned Facility Management, the system has identified 500 confirmed fire incidents and reported them to Civil Defence.
The capabilities of the system were showcased during a field exercise organised by Saned in cooperation with the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority. The demonstration highlighted how smart cameras and reconnaissance drones can help identify potential fires, verify incidents and provide emergency teams with information to support their response.
The technology is designed to identify smoke and flames at an early stage, allowing authorities to assess potential hazards and take appropriate action to limit risks to people and property.
Smart cameras and drones support fire detection
The field exercise featured two demonstrations illustrating how the technology can be used in different environments.
In the first demonstration, smart cameras identified signs of smoke and fire in an open area. The second focused on detecting and verifying a fire inside an enclosed warehouse, after which a reconnaissance drone was deployed to assist with on-site assessment.
These capabilities can provide emergency personnel with a clearer understanding of an incident before and during their response. Early alerts and improved situational awareness can also help authorities address potential hazards before they develop into more serious emergencies.
Representatives from Saned Facility Management, Sharjah Police General Headquarters, the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority and Sharjah Asset Management attended the exercise. Participants were briefed on the system’s monitoring functions and how the integration of cameras and drones can support emergency preparedness.
Technology strengthens preventive safety measures
Eng. Hamed Al Zarouni, general manager of Saned Facility Management, highlighted the importance of incorporating advanced technology into building safety and risk management.
He explained that practical demonstrations allow organisations to evaluate technological solutions under different operating conditions, improve preparedness and strengthen preventive measures.
Saned is continuing to develop the Aman system and improve its integration with relevant authorities. The initiative focuses on using smart solutions to enhance monitoring capabilities, support operational efficiency and improve the management of potential safety risks.
Aman connects buildings with emergency operations
Approved as an early warning system in Sharjah in 2019, Aman links fire alarm systems in buildings and facilities to the relevant operations rooms. This allows alerts to be received continuously, helps identify the location of reported fires and enables the appropriate response teams to be notified.
The system is intended to support quicker communication between monitored properties and emergency authorities, helping them respond to incidents and reduce the risk of fires spreading.
Saned’s operational experience has contributed to the continued development of the system and its role in building safety across Sharjah.
The latest demonstration highlights how digital monitoring, aerial assessment technology and coordination between public authorities can contribute to more effective fire safety management. As Sharjah continues to develop its infrastructure, these technologies are expected to remain an important part of efforts to improve building protection and emergency preparedness.
Saned Facility Management operates as a subsidiary of Sharjah Asset Management, the investment arm of the Government of Sharjah.
